Dear Parents,

Through a process of consultation and discussion, the Kiswahili team has reorganized the structure of Kiswahili levels in grades 1 and 2  in order to best meet the needs of the students. After the holidays, starting the week of April 4, students in grades 1 and 2 may be with a different Kiswahili teacher and/or class. We have tried to make the minimal number of changes possible during the process. If you have any questions, please contact the Team Leader for Modern Languages, Shona Sarkar at

Thank you,

Student Led Conferences

SLC Letter for Grade 1

On Thursday, March 17th you will have the opportunity to participate in a conference led by your child.

Student Led Conferences at IST provide students with a powerful and authentic opportunity for sharing, celebrating and reflecting on their work. It is an opportunity for students to share their learning experiences across the curriculum and across subject areas.

Each conference will include the following:

  • Active elements where children demonstrate their learning or understanding. This element will include demonstrations and interactions with mathematics, literacy and unit tasks.
  • reflection time where students share their strengths and goals with their parents. Please note that your child will lead this station.

Student Led Conferences do not include a time for you to discuss your child’s progress with the teacher, so it is different to Parent Teacher Conferences. If you wish to meet with your child’s teacher for this purpose, you should arrange an appointment to do this at another time.

Part of the conference will be held in individual classrooms and will involve about four student families visiting different stations simultaneously. The classroom conference will therefore be 40 minutes.

Your child will also lead you to visit Art, Music, PE, Foreign Language/EAL, Library and the ICT room. You can visit specialist areas before or after the classroom part of the student led conference.

Please note this will not be a normal school day. Your child will only be at school during their allotted time and the time taken to visit the specialist areas. They do not need to wear school uniform.

It is not an appropriate time for siblings to attend. Supervision of siblings will be available for EC, Kindergarten, Gr1 and 2 in the EC-KG playground. Gr 3, 4 and 5 (sports activities-no skateboards) in the Covered court.

You will receive a specific time when your child will lead their conference by Friday 4th March.

With kind regards,

The Grade One Team
