Library, Grade 1 and Safe and Happy Communities

Screen Shot 2015-09-24 at 11.14.20 AMGrade 1 has been looking at the responsibilities people have to keep their communities safe and happy. As part of that, Grade 1 classes read Library Lion, by Michelle Knudsen, with Ms Karen in their recent library sessions.

The lion in the book helps everyone in the library.

We talked about how we keep the library safe and happy.  Among the many suggestions were:

  • Treat the books nicely.
  • Turn the pages slowly.
  • Keep books in a library bag.
  • Keep the books dry.
  • Use a soft voice.
  • Be kind in the library.

Here’s a sign saying, “Please step on the floor in the library” with a lion stepping all over our cushions.

This one says, ‘Be quiet,’ while a lion roars.

This sign suggests carrying the books nicely, while the cartoon character has books coming off the top of her head, her arms and falling from her hands.

We laughed at the drawings and thought even more about keeping ourselves and the library safe and happy.
