Welcome to all new and returning artists. This year we have great projects coming up and we can’t wait to get started.
Students started with sketchbook and folder labels in which they will take all their work home at the end of the year.
On Mondays and Wednesdays during lunch break, the art rooms will be available for those students who would like to have some quiet time and do extra art, drawing, card making, etc.
We are looking forward to the year and to exposing our budding artists to the wonderful world of art!

For their unit on ‘Maps’, Grade One classes looked at how maps help us find out where we are and where we are going.
In Art, they looked different kinds of building that make up a town or a city. They designed their own buildings and then transferred these designs onto polystyrene. The polystyrene was inked with rollers and used to print their own ‘cityscapes’ and a map of a city. Here are some pictures to illustrate the process.
Grade Three and the Art of Vincent Van Gogh
Grade Three classes have been looking at inspirational people in their classes. In Art, we looked at the Art of Vincent Van Gogh. Van Gogh is an artist who has inspired so many people with his life and art. We looked a little bit at his life and how his work changed over time. We found that he used dull colors in the beginning but his colors got brighter over time. He also used lots of lines in shades of colors to create movement in his painting. We, then, chose our favorite painting to copy. These paintings will be displayed near the entrance soon. Please come and see them.

Grades Four have been drawing self-portraits with color pencils. Mr. Kasanga, who is very good at making portraits, showed us how he draws people. We looked in the mirrors to help us decide where the eyes, nose and mouth are placed on our faces. It was very hard but we learned that there are techniques that we can use to help us place our features. We found that we all kind of look the same but we can make our portraits individual and make them look like ourselves by changing the shape of the face or nose a little bit, adding hair and eye color to match us and of course our individual hair styles!
